  What is...?
Account Balance
Your account balance is the total value of your account—the sum of your securities (both long and short), your sweep account and/or cash balances, and (if you have a margin account) your margin balances.

Your account balance reflects all trading and other account activity as of the previous day?s market close. During the current market day, your balance is updated only by your open orders and not by other kinds of account activity like deposits. Cash account balances are reduced by 100% of open orders. Margin account balances are reduced by 50% of open orders.
