  What is...?
Proprietary Mutual Fund
A family of mutual funds created, managed, and sold by a brokerage firm or bank. The fund family carries the firm's brand name, and the funds may not be able to be transferred from one company to another. To determine if a proprietary mutual fund you own can be transferred to E*TRADE Securities, check with us and the sending firm. If we are able to receive the transfer and hold proprietary mutual fund shares of another company, purchases of additional shares are typically not permitted.
